Frequently Asked Questions

What is chiropractic?

It may seem funny to ask this question, as it seems obvious as most everyone has some knowledge what a Chiropractor does.  However most don't know the answer is that specifically Chiropractic is a drug-free treatment that has been proven to help many types of conditions resulting in pain. The spinal adjustment is where Dr. Justin Davis applies pressure to specific joints in the body using his hands or a type of adjusting instrument. The adjustment restores proper motion to the joints. When proper motion is restored to specific joints the body is able to move better which decreases pain and increases healing and physical function.

How do you know where to adjust?

The answer to this question lies in hands of our Chiropractor.  Dr. Justin Davis will feel and tests the different joints in their different joint planes of motions to find out which specific area and vector to adjust into. The adjustments usually feel good to patients and rarely is it uncomfortable. Sometimes patients question if these are bones cracking, but it is not.  The popping sound heard after the adjustment is merely the joints moving as they are pushed/adjusted to restore motion.

Do you only adjust the spine?

While the Chiropractor is most known for adjusting the neck and spine, Dr. Justin Davis has taken additional training to be efficient in adjusting extremities as well. Sometimes we need to question whether someone's spinal pain is coming from areas outside the spine. The answer to this comes from these adjustments to jaw, shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, knees, and ankles and if they have results for someone suffering from pain.  Not all Chiropractors in Tigard Oregon adjust areas outside the spine, but for those that need it sometimes it can be incredibly effective.

Is chiropractic effective?

Chiropractic is the most researched and most widely used of all the alternative care therapies. Chiropractic is so well-researched and proven over and over again in studies that now a visit to the Chiropractor will be required to be covered by all insurance agencies because it is considered essential health care along with other standard medical coverage. The way Dr. Justin Davis and team perform treatment for the surrounding families of Tigard Oregon is also a style that is even more in-depth than much of the studies have looked into.

What can Chiropractic help with?

A Chiropractor can help relieve and heal all types of complaints such as: neck pain, low back pain, car accident injuries, headaches, shoulder pain, hip pain, elbow & wrist pain, jaw pain, knee & ankle pain, carpel tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, bursitis, whiplash, scoliosis, vertigo, fibromyalgia, sprains, strains, pregnancy pain, job injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica, arm pain, disc herniations, arthritis, frozen shoulder, rotator cuff injury.

What is rehabilitation?

Home rehabilitative exercises and stretches will answer the question of whether or not the patient needs to be doing their own care at home.  Dr. Justin Davis is a strong advocate of self care, so in a way this treatment is similar to physical therapy without having to go through the time and financial hassle of getting referred to a physical therapist.

What are the physiotherapy modalities that you offer?

Also similar at times to physical therapy, our Tigard Oregon clinic uses electrical muscle stimulation, supportive kinesio taping, and advanced soft tissue mobilization techniques, and massage.  The goal with these modalities is speeding up healing, decreasing pain, and increasing physical function.

What is the Big 3 you refer to?

This is a term Dr. Justin Davis refers to, where in his treatment utilizes chiropractic adjustments, soft tissue work/massage, and rehabilitative exercise, which gets patents the fastest and longest-lasting results possible. We feel that if we can treat the patients of Tigard Oregon with the most comprehensive type of treatment then they will get better faster and in turn have a better quality of life.

How long does a Chiropractor have to go to school?

A Chiropractor is a Doctor, in which they spend the same amount of time in school as a medical doctor: 3-4 years of undergraduate pre-med study, then graduate school of 3-4 years with a residency/internship in the final year. 50 years ago there was a big difference in curriculum between a Chiropractor and a Medical Doctor, but these days the education and training is the same in most areas with special emphasis on different areas for each respective field. Chiropractors get such comprehensive clinical training that they are licensed to deliver babies and perform minor surgery in Oregon!

Is Chiropractic only for pain?

Chiropractic can relieve many painful condition but can also help with improved focus, energy, digestion, and has been known to help with blood pressure, asthma, and fibromyalgia. We treat a good amount of residents of Tigard Oregon who aren't in pain but are looking to stay out of pain.  This is more maintenance or wellness care, which is keeping the body moving correctly so there is a smaller risk of pain developing.  Dr. Justin Davis likens this to changing the oil in your car or going to the dentist where you want to perform maintenance so you don't end up with a big problem from ignoring warning signs.

I was in an auto accident, how do I start care?

After contacting your auto insurance to inform them of the accident, you’ll be eligible for up to $15,000 in medical cost coverage (Personal Injury Protection, or PIP coverage), which includes Chiropractic and Massage at Elevation Chiropractic and Rehabilitation. You shouldn't question whether you need care or try to blame it as being a little injury.  We go more in depth to answer the common questions found at our Auto Injury page - just click to get more information.  You do not need a referral – just get a claim number from your auto insurance and then schedule in with Dr. Justin Davis. Everyone in the car is protected under the car’s auto insurance PIP coverage, so even if you weren’t the driver you can still get covered for treatment. If you were the driver, whether it was your fault for the accident or not, your PIP coverage will be activated after an accident (which is put in place so you can get proper treatment after an accident!).
