Icy Roads Alert!

It’s December and the weather isn’t frightful, but it is getting quite chill which means the risk of a car accident! As the signs icy roads with frost and snow make itself more apparent, it is important that us Tigard OR folk be more mindful of taking precautions when driving, and even walking. This is to avoid physical harm and accident due to the anticipated icy roads that can turn into an unexpected car accident. Dr. Justin Davis, our Chiropractor at Elevation Chiropractic & Rehabilitation is here to help support you through the icy season and keep your back health in check!

Driving on icy roads

Watch Out!

You may have noticed plenty of ice on the streets this morning, as well as on your car! Dr. Justin Davis is our chiropractor here with Elevation Chiropractic & Rehabilitation in Tigard OR and he readily anticipates weather-related injuries throughout the snowy season. A few simple ways to prevent a slip on ice accident or a car accident injury while driving on icy roads is to reduce your speed to a safe and comfortable rate. You should strive to avoid slamming on the breaks, slowing to a halt; and if you begin to slide (according to http://icyroadsafety.com) then turn your wheels in the direction the back end of your vehicle is sliding. Most importantly, always shy away from making any sudden movements while driving to keep that risk of a car accident low.

Walking

For walking conditions throughout Tigard, make certain to wear shoes with a sturdy bottom sole featuring large tracks or raised patterns (like a tire) to help you grip to the ground. Taking a lesson from the penguin is an acceptable way to avoid slippage! Who better than the penguin to educate on the best way to walk in icy roads and conditions. If you find yourself in a slick situation, point your toes out rather than straight or inward, centering your gravity in the core of your stomach, spread your feet so that they are aligned with your shoulders, and take slow, small steps (no more than 5-6 inches) at a time. Be sure to keep your hands free; not hiding them away in your pockets, and extend your arms to keep your balance if necessary. Dr. Justin Davis reminds us all to keep moving throughout the icy season with these helpful tips and rules of the road!
