Headaches and The Chiropractor
Egads, after all of these posts regarding treatment by Chiropractor Tigard area, I still haven’t even touched on a very common yet unknown patient type: headache sufferers! Nearly every day there is a patient walking through my doors who is either in a current headache, or has been experiencing one on and off for a few days prior, who we help get back to feeling whole again. There is a large amount of evidence and there are studies showing the efficacy for chiropractic and headaches. The majority of headaches occur because of an imbalance in the upper neck region which connects to the base of the head. This imbalance is between the muscles and the joints, even sometimes the nerves, of this area of the upper neck. When the upper neck joints are not moving correctly it caused altered movement which makes the muscles get tight and then symptoms begin. Complaints can be as dull as muscle tightness, or it can be as significant as a devastating headache. Often it lies somewhere in the middle for most patients who walk into a Chiropractors Tigard office.
When the joints in the neck are treated with a Chiropractor adjustment, it puts everything back to normal in a position that is should have been in, and it restores proper movement to areas that weren’t moving. When the neck is moving correctly then the muscles tighten up less and the headaches go back down. There are several other types of treatment interventions that we use in our Tigard Chiropractic clinic to help with headaches, with which I will review in a later blog on specifics to get the headache to calm down faster. Additionally in a later post I will go over one of the most important things when dealing with a headache: what to watch out for. And of course, this wouldn’t be Elevation Chiropractic and Rehabilitation if I didn’t review some of the ways to self-treat the area, as well as go over some of the things we teach patients to keep the pain from coming back. We do this by showing how to keep the neck joints from going bad in the first place, as well as what to do if they have and the muscles need to be calmed down. If you have further questions about headaches and don’t have time to wait for the posts, then please contact Dr. Justin Davis, Chiropractor Tigard, OR located next to Washington Square mall at 503-206-4620. -Dr. J
